CURE Connections (C2) Seeks Maryland Science Olympiad Volunteers CURE Connections is looking for volunteers to support their high school Maryland Science Olympiad (MSO) team! Volunteers assist coaches with helping students comprehend material, applying concepts, and optimizing teamwork strategies. Volunteers will work with a pair of high school scholars to complete science and engineering themed challenges to prepare for the Maryland Science Olympiad competition on Saturday, March 7th. The team meets at the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus.

No previous experience is necessary to volunteer!

Volunteers work in a team environment supported by other volunteers and the MSO coach and assistant coach. All materials will be provided for scholars and volunteers to complete challenges–volunteers just need to be willing to help their scholars succeed! Practices will take place each week on Saturday mornings from 9am-12pm and after school Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm-5:30pm starting February 1st through the competition on March 7th.

Volunteers are expected to attend every Saturday practice and Tuesday/Thursday practices as needed.

Mandatory Practices: 9am – 12pm on Saturday, February 1, 8, 22, 29
Supplementary Practices: 4pm – 5:30pm on Tuesdays, February 4, 11, 18, 25, March 3
Supplementary Practices: 4pm – 5:30pm on Thursdays, February 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5
Competition: 8:30am – 3pm on Saturday, March 7.

Duties and responsibilities include coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the events they are involved in. Maintaining accurate records and results of individual and team performances. Enforcing discipline and establishing and overseeing consequences for breach of such standards by individual students. Maintaining competency in rules and general information about all aspects of the Science Olympiad. Volunteers must also attend all mandatory Saturday practice sessions and supplementary practices as scheduled.
