P-TECH School Virtual Mentoring
June 14, 2022 - June 14, 2023
UMB partners with the P-TECH School at Dunbar to support high school students who are simultaneously pursuing both an Associates Degree and High School Diploma and who are interested in health professions. The PTECH school model calls for every student to have access to professional mentors to help guide them toward their professional goals, give general career advice and help students build communication skills.
Mentors connect with students via bi-weekly mentor Zoom meetings. These meetings are opportunities to establish ongoing communication and support between mentors and to share best practices. Mentors are also expected to have monthly (or at least quarterly) voice or video check-ins with mentees. Face to face meetings can also be facilitated in school by P-TECH staff. All mentors must submit to background check done by Baltimore City Public Schools. Mentor training is provided.
