Welcome to the University of Maryland’s volunteer opportunity website. Our goal is to connect students, faculty, and staff at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and employees at the University of Maryland Medical Center with volunteer projects in our area. It’s a place for you to sign up for service activities, and a place to post service activities that need volunteers.
By creating an account on this site, you can also indicate your areas of interest and your availability to volunteer, and someone from the Community Engagement team will contact you when opportunities arise that fit your profile. If you have questions about this website, please contact us.

Mentor with Higher Acheivement
October 22, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - May 17, 2019 @ 7:30 pm
From HA website:
At Higher Achievement, we call our middle school students “scholars.” Why? Because they are motivated, inspired, and looking to bridge the opportunity gap in their communities. Our scholars enter Higher Achievement with a range of academic performance levels and with varied levels of support inside and outside of their school. But all of our scholars leave our program with a strong belief in our four social justice pillars: voice, freedom, justice, and solidarity. Our organization commitment to these principles drive us to purposefully serve communities that lack opportunity. Our scholar population, with a demographic makeup of 75% African-American and 12% Latino, reflects the communities that we serve.
A key component of Higher Achievement’s success is our mentoring program. Higher Achievement mentors are role models with varied backgrounds. Our mentors are passionate and committed role models who dedicate one night a week to the success of our scholars. Some grew up in the same communities as the scholars they mentor; others grew up in other parts of the country or world. Some live in the city; others commute from the suburbs.
Together, these mentors build a rich community that exposes Higher Achievement scholars to new perspectives and support. Our mentors, in turn, are rewarded with the experience of making a dramatic and clear impact on the lives of young people — and they are connected with a network of hundreds of professionals who are similarly invested in their communities.
