Welcome to the University of Maryland’s volunteer opportunities. Our goal is to connect students, faculty, and staff at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and employees at the University of Maryland Medical Center with volunteer projects in our area. It’s a place for you to sign up for service activities, and a place to post service activities that need volunteers.
By creating an account on this site, you can also indicate your areas of interest and your availability to volunteer, and someone from the Community Engagement team will contact you when opportunities arise that fit your profile. If you have questions about this website, please contact us.

Maryland Science Olympiad – Mentoring
January 8, 2019 @ 8:00 am - March 10, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
Mentor a city youngster in science! Maryland Science Olympiad is an after school club program for middle and high schoolers. It has 17-23 broad STEM competitions in a tournament, like an Olympics. 24 Baltimore city teams are preparing in weekly after school clubs to compete in Feb and March. This is part of the national Science Olympiad program, in 48 states for over 35 years. Students get to choose their event to compete from life sciences, chemistry, physics, experiments, inquiry and more.
City teams would love to have mentors to help the students prepare for the tournaments. Mentors roles are to help review study topics or parts of an experiment or help build items, or do practice quizzing, depending on the mentor and students’ needs.
No experience is necessary. Transportation is reimbursed. Schools are within 15 mins of UMB. To sign up or learn more, contact Kate McGuire, MSO Regional Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org
